This trio met while taking music classes together at UNLV and the College of Southern Nevada, and have been friends for more than five years. They have been mentored by jazz drummer Roy James and appear to have effortless musical communication on the bandstand. Tanaka currently is a music major at UNLV. Peterson already has earned his degree in jazz performance from UNLV’s College of Fine Arts and plays professionally at a local hotel. Schauer is continuing his studies in jazz drums and theory, and teaches drums privately. Like-minded musicians, the group also works together to present an assembly program in elementary schools that is designed to teach jazz appreciation and education.

Future Night Groovin’ series plans include “Life After 50: Survivalist Training Required” by Kim Russell March 27-28 and the Shapiro Project jazz quartet concert April 24.
