Everyone is invited to savor the sounds of the Rick Arroyo Latin Jazz Trio on Friday, Dec. 19, at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. Arroyo and his band are known throughout the valley for their arrangements of Latin and straight-ahead jazz, and as winners of Las Vegas Latin Awards for Best Latin Jazz Performer and Best Latin Jazz Band. The threesome will take the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for all seats. Tickets are available by phone or at the center’s box office at 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Musician, composer and arranger Arroyo has been playing professionally since he was 15 years old. He has played with world-famous entertainers such as the late Tito Puente, Artie Webb, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Joe Torres, the Yellow Jackets, the Rippingtons, Michael McDonald, Donna Summers and The Beach Boys. He and his band played at the Coral Reef Lounge at Mandalay Bay for four years, and also have performed at numerous other Las Vegas hotel/casinos and venues.
The Night Groovin’ Series is presented by the Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, which operates the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. Future Night Groovin’ concert plans include Mardi Gras Mambo — Dixieland Jazz on Jan. 30 and the Freedom Jazz Trio on Feb. 27.
The Reed Whipple Cultural Center offers a variety of classes and workshops, including youth theatre, pottery, ceramics, clay sculpting/handbuilding, belly dancing, tap dancing, Latin dance, Hawaiian hula, tap/ballet dancing, jazz music, voice lessons and youth art. Classes are value priced and affordable for the whole family. In addition to classes, the center also offers concerts, theatre performances and special events.
