Fremont Street Experience will host the final stop on the 22-city national 2008 tour of the Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge. This year marks the 17th Annual World Challenge, and the second appearance at Fremont Street Experience. The competition requires that firefighters wear full bunker gear and a Scott Air-Pak SCBA while completing a rigorous course comprised of five events: a five-story stair climb with a 45-pound hose, a hose hoist, forcible entry/Keiser Force Machine, a hose advance and victim rescue. Each event represents a job task specific to firefighting and truly tests each firefighter’s resilience and agility.
The Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge brings together more than 800 firefighters from throughout the world, including Canada and New Zealand, to compete in what’s known as the “toughest two minutes in sports.” The five-event obstacle course tests firefighters’ fitness levels and agility, while celebrating the excellence of these heroes. Teams representing Nevada include North Las Vegas Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and Sparks (Reno) Fire Department.
