Classical Music Concert at Charleston Heights Arts Center

Everyone is invited to enjoy a free concert of classical compositions by the Las Vegas Wind Quintet at Charleston Heights Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 17. Clarinetist Dave Hawley, flutist Sherrie Parker, bassoonist Sam Pisciotta, French horn player Doug Beasley, and oboe player Mika Brunson will perform at 2 p.m. The arts center is located at 800 S. Brush St. Free parking is available at the center. The performance is presented by the Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

The afternoon program will include “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1” by Edvard Grieg, “Serenade” by Flemming Weiss, “Divertimento” by Wolfgang Mozart, “La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin” by Claude Debussy, “Aubade en Quintette” by Émile Pessard, “Suite: Folk-tunes from Transylvania and Banat” by Roderick Elmer, and a composition by Anton Reicha.

The arts center features one of the city’s finest dance floors. International folk dancing is held every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Contra dancing is offered on Saturdays twice a month from 7 to 10 p.m., with group lessons at 6:30 p.m. Several big band dances are offered throughout the year and numerous other programs are presented. Coming up Jan. 22, the third Mandarin Series Family Film, “The Road Home,” will celebrate the Chinese culture and Chinese lunar New Year. The Brass Roots Quintet will perform a free concert at the center Feb. 7.
