STOMP OUT LOUD, the high-energy production from the creators of the international sensation STOMP, will end its engagement at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on January 4, 2009. “Though the show will have had a very successful 22-month run, the producers have collectively determined that in light of the current global economic landscape, it’s in the show’s best interest to close during the traditionally slow winter as it pursues another, perhaps more intimate venue, on the Las Vegas Strip,” said Scott Zeiger, co-CEO of BASE Entertainment.

Though STOMP OUT LOUD is exclusive to Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, its popularity has swept the nation. Since opening, the cast of STOMP OUT LOUD has performed at iconic Las Vegas events such as the NBA All-Star Game, Latin Grammy Awards and Professional Bull Riders World Finals. The cast has been seen on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and Planet Green’s “Battleground Earth.” The show was also named one of Las Vegas’ Top Ten Shows of 2007 by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Classical Music Concert at Charleston Heights Arts Center

Everyone is invited to enjoy a free concert of classical compositions by the Las Vegas Wind Quintet at Charleston Heights Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 17. Clarinetist Dave Hawley, flutist Sherrie Parker, bassoonist Sam Pisciotta, French horn player Doug Beasley, and oboe player Mika Brunson will perform at 2 p.m. The arts center is located at 800 S. Brush St. Free parking is available at the center. The performance is presented by the Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

The afternoon program will include “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1″ by Edvard Grieg, “Serenade” by Flemming Weiss, “Divertimento” by Wolfgang Mozart, “La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin” by Claude Debussy, “Aubade en Quintette” by Émile Pessard, “Suite: Folk-tunes from Transylvania and Banat” by Roderick Elmer, and a composition by Anton Reicha.

The arts center features one of the city’s finest dance floors. International folk dancing is held every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Contra dancing is offered on Saturdays twice a month from 7 to 10 p.m., with group lessons at 6:30 p.m. Several big band dances are offered throughout the year and numerous other programs are presented. Coming up Jan. 22, the third Mandarin Series Family Film, “The Road Home,” will celebrate the Chinese culture and Chinese lunar New Year. The Brass Roots Quintet will perform a free concert at the center Feb. 7.

Silverton Casino Lodge is offering Discovery Club members the chance to walk away with hundreds of dollars in cash every Tuesday during Super Tuesday slot tournaments. To qualify to win the weekly cash prizes totaling $2,000, Discovery Club members must earn points by playing specially marked machines. Members will have eight minutes to rack up as many points as possible. The top ten players will advance to the final round, which will determine placement for prize money. To register, Discovery Club members should visit the Discovery Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m. the morning of the tournament and patrons must pay an entry fee of 2,500 points, $5 cash or player loyalty coupons.
