Master musician and Senegalese singer Toumany Kouyate returns to the World Vibration Concert Series with Bountalo, an African music ensemble, at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Winchester Cultural Center Theater, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Kouyate was last seen on the Winchester stage during the series’ fourth anniversary concert in July. Kouyate is joined by percussionists Adama Diop and Ousmane Gueye, keyboardist Nico Gutierrez and dancer Ndeye Ndaiye. Listeners are typically fascinated by the unusual quality of Kouyate’s voice. The musicians in Bountalo live in Southern California and Las Vegas. Kouyate moved to Las Vegas in 1998 as a performer in Cirque du Soleil’s “O,” and he continues as a cast member today. He also appears on the company’s soundtrack for the Cirque du Soleil film “Journey of Man.” Bountalo will perform traditional African songs and original compositions.

Kouyate has performed in a 2007 Earth Day remix of Dave Stewart’s “Go Green” with such artists as Sarah MacLachlan. He also has performed in the last year at Festival International Nuits D’Afrique in Montreal, Canada; with former student Zal Idrissa Sissokho and at British Columbia’s Festival du Bois.

Winchester Cultural Center has hosted musicians from all over the world through the World Vibration Concert Series during the last four years. Musicians from Brazil, Ireland, China, Thailand, Mexico and many other countries have brought their distinct rhythms to the Winchester stage. The series continues with Tommy Sands, who will perform traditional Irish music at 2 p.m. March 6.

We here at Whirlygig/First Friday Las Vegas love the tremendous visitorship we receive each month for our First Friday Programming. Our licensing with the city allows us to facilitate and enjoy the event from 6pm -10pm the first Friday of each month. Recently, and due to the fantastic response, some vendors and local businesses have requested that we continue our events until Midnight or later. As much as we would love to be able to accommodate this request our permitting and financial resources simply do not allow us to remain open after 10 pm.

For that reason we would like for all of our friends, advertisers, visitors and interested parties to know that the HOURS of First Friday are and will remain from 6-10pm. Any activities sponsored or organized by individuals, groups, businesses or otherwise organized AFTER 10 pm are not part of Whirlygig or First Friday. Whirlygig and First Friday will in no way be responsible in any way whatsoever for any activity or potential liability that may occur during the hours after 10pm in the area where regular First Friday activities take place.

At Whirlygig we work closely with the City of Las Vegas and the Metropolitan Police Dept. to make the First Friday activities as fun and as safe as possible for all visitors until 10 pm. If you choose to participate in any events or activities after 10pm, you do so without the support and assistance that Whirlygig provides for visitors during regular festival hours. Although we cannot limit businesses from hosting activities after 10pm, we just would like you to know that the care and assistance we provide during festival hours will not exist and visitors will be participating at their own risk and discretion.
