Let’s get ready to RHUMBAR! This football season, as the weather cools down RHUMBAR’s spacious outdoor patio heats up with football fever. Saturdays, Sundays and Monday nights, pigskin fans will enjoy football tailgating on the patio with an enticing roster of power plays, munchies and drink specials.

Featuring live rock mash-ups and acoustic accompaniments by talented guest musicians, revelers will enjoy stimulating cocktails while percussionist DJ Rodney tantalizes the ears with rock-inspired beats. Kicking off at 9:30 p.m., the weekly lineup will include a range of talented musicians from up and down the Strip.

All pigskin fans will receive complimentary cover during game time as they cheer on their favorite teams while catching all the action on one of RHUMBAR’s eight big screen televisions.

RHUMBAR is a highly-stylized cocktail and cigar lounge inspired by the cool mood of the Caribbean. An historic event will take place at Fremont Street Experience on Friday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage; Mayor Oscar Goodman will join the United Football League’s Las Vegas Locomotives (Locos) team as a Tight End with a special contract signing ceremony. To commemorate this moment Mayor Oscar Goodman will be presented with an official Locos Jersey while his new coach, Jim Fassel, teammates and Locos cheerleaders welcome him to the football team.

“I want to thank the Locos for giving me a chance, I don’t know if I’ll be much help on the field, but I can definitely teach them how to make a good martini for the concession stand,” Mayor Goodman said. “I did play some high school and college football, but that was so long ago that I think we were wearing leather helmets,”

“This was truly a shock; the Mayor signing a contract with the Locos was the last thing anyone expected. We want to support a true champion of downtown in any way possible, so when he asked that the official ceremony happen at Fremont Street Experience we couldn’t say no,” stated Jeff Victor, president of Fremont Street Experience. “We wish him luck and I look forward to seeing him on the field.”

“I’ve always admired the mayor and I’m grateful for the partnership with the city. I just hope he passes his physical,” said Fassel. “If he passes his physical he can be a valuable asset to our team.”

Goodman is excited about having professional football in Las Vegas. “It’s great to have a professional football franchise calling Las Vegas home, and I encourage all of the citizens here to come out and show their support for the Locos,” added Goodman.

After the ceremonial contract signing, fans are invited to stay at Fremont Street Experience for Fan Experience at the “Experience.” Coach Jim Fassel and players will sign autographs, take pictures, and interact with the crowd. Additionally, The Locos’s cheerleading squad LocoMotion will be on site to present a special performance. Merchandise and tickets to upcoming games will also be available for purchase at the event.

Jim Fassel, General Manager and Coach of the Locos is well known for his coaching career. He was named NFL coach of the year in 1997 and in the 2000 season, he coached the New York Giants to an improbable Super Bowl appearance. Last year, Fassel led our very own Locos to win the inaugural 2009 UFL championships. The Locos will defend their title this year against the Florida Tuskers, Hartford Colonials, Omaha Nighthawks and Sacramento Mountain Lions for the William Hambrecht Trophy. The Locos first game of the season will be played on Saturday, September 18 against the Florida Tuskers at 11 p.m. EDT.

Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) is pleased to announce its first free admission day on October 2 to thank loyal patrons and introduce new ones to BGFA. In honor of Smithsonian Magazine’s Annual Museum Day which offers complimentary entry to designated museums and cultural institutions across the country, BGFA will welcome all guests free of charge to experience “Figuratively Speaking: A Survey of the Human Form,” an engaging survey of figurative art through the ages.

“Figuratively Speaking” drew immediate praise from Las Vegas art critics upon its debut May 1, 2010. Kristen Petersen of Las Vegas Weekly wrote, “If you’ve never been to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, now’s the time – this is the show to see,” and Danielle Kelly of the Las Vegas Sun lauded the exhibition for “taking a dusty theme and shedding new light on its subjective significance.”

Organized in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), “Figuratively Speaking” presents figurative works by 29 artists including Pierre-August Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Joseph Cornell, Roy Lichtenstein and more. The collection thoughtfully features more than 40 works – ranging from paintings and photographs to sculpture and video installations – to define the genre of figurative art as it was perceived in the late 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to the public gratis and introduce first-time visitors to what we have to offer,” said BGFA Director Tarissa Tiberti. “This also is an opportunity to thank our regular patrons for supporting us throughout the year.”

The Gallery will be open October 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last admissions will be accepted no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. The Village Lake Las Vegas is hosting a special John Lennon Celebration Weekend in honor of what would have been his 70th birthday this October. To commemorate this amazing musician, guests can enjoy a weekend filled with a variety of free entertainment Oct. 1 and 2, 2010.

Beginning on Friday, Oct. 1, guests can enjoy a free lakeside concert with hits from Beatles tribute band The Fab from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., guests can get a sneak preview of “Nowhere Boy,” the new feature film about Lennon’s early life that is set for national release on Friday, October 8.
