The esteemed 15-man band plays late night every Saturday beginning May 2.
Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns, a staple in the Las Vegas music scene since the ’70s, will perform every Saturday night inside Bonkerz Comedy Club at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino beginning May 2. The shows begin at midnight and there is no cover.
Santa Fe bandleader and founder Jerry Lopez assembled a group of revered musicians from New Mexico and brought them to Las Vegas in the ’70s. The group immediately attracted crowds filled with other professional musicians, performers and visiting musical celebrities who often got on stage with the group. Today, Santa Fe has combined with The Fat City Horns to create a 15-man band that features a six-piece horn section and a nine-piece rhythm section which includes four lead singers. The majority of the band consists of working musicians for shows on the Strip such as “Jersey Boys,” “Wayne Brady,” “The Lion King,” “Donny & Marie” and Bette Midler’s “The Showgirl Must Go On,” which employs the entire horn section. On Saturday nights, the dynamic band will get together and jam, playing a mix of original songs and covers, creating an unparalleled sound that seamlessly blends funk, soul, salsa and jazz.
The rhythm section is made up of Jerry Lopez on lead guitar and vocals, alongside his brother Lenny Lopez on vocals and percussion, Tony Davich and Tyriq Johnson on vocals, Four Tops alum Rochon Westmoreland on bass, Jamie Hosmer on keyboards and vocals, Gabriel Santana Falcon on percussion, Jose “Pepe” Jimenez on drums and Dave Richardson on keyboards and handling arrangements. The six-man Fat City Horns ensemble includes Rob Mader on tenor sax, Phil Wigfall on alto sax, Jerry Merra on baritone sax, Gil Kaupp and Danny Falcone on trumpet and Nathan Tanouye on trombone and handling arrangements. Numerous talented artists have joined this group on stage over the years including Kenny Loggins, Michael Ruff, Rocco Prestia and members of TOP, Bill Champlin of Chicago, Brandon Fields, members of Earth, Wind & Fire, Will Lee and Tom Scott, among others. The band is currently working on its first studio album and has already released two live albums.
The shows are open to adults 21 years and older and there is no cost for admission. Entry to the shows will be first come, first served and based upon venue capacity.
