Former “Nashville Star” finalists perform every Friday and Saturday

Third Town, former 2008 “Nashville Star” reality show finalists, are performing every Friday and Saturday inside Jack’s Roadhouse at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino. The band gets the crowd going with a mix of southern rock and country originals and covers from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night. 

The band formed in San Antonio, Texas before moving to Tennessee and then finally settling in Las Vegas, where they came up with the band name Third Town. The group auditioned for season six of “Nashville Star” and was told at first that they did not make the final 12. Then, the day before the first taping, they received a call that they made it to the finals and immediately headed to Nashville, Tenn. where they went on to amaze audiences across the country with their incredible harmonies and charming stage presence. 

Jeffrey Fairchild and Tony Mosti now find themselves back in Vegas, entertaining audiences. The shows are open to adults 21 years and older and there is no cost for admission. Entry to the shows will be first come, first served and based upon venue capacity.

Skip Martin, formerly of Kool & the Gang, and his seven-piece band will be appearing at South Padre inside Texas Station Hotel and Casino every Sunday, beginning March 1. With doors opening at 1:30 p.m., the band will be playing jazz compilations from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dance music from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Martin’s tenor voice and warm styles are inspired by artists such as Miles Davis, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Donny Hathaway and have earned him multiple awards in his more than 30 years composing and performing. In 1982, he received a Grammy Award for R&B Song of the Year for the hit song, “Let It Whip,” while playing with The Dazz Band. He was the original lead vocalist and trumpet player for the group from 1978 to 1987, reunited with the group in 1996 and performed with them until 2008.

Martin joined Kool & the Gang in 1987 as its lead vocalist. The band is best known for the songs “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Summer Madness” and “Open Sesame,” among others. In 2007, the band released the album Still Kool with the single Steppin’ Into Love, which became its first entry on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart since 1989.

South Padre is a 300-seat venue offering an open exterior bar for customers to see lounge entertainment taking place inside the venue. The show is free of charge and open to all ages. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is first-come, first-served and based upon venue capacity.

BENEFIT FOR THE YOUNG READERS COUNCIL MARCH 6 & 7 – Several Baseball Legends to Make Appearances to Support Charity.

The Plaza Hotel & Casino along with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association is hosting a $10,000 Legends Charity Dinner and Blackjack Tournament March 6 and 7, 2009 to benefit the Young Readers Council.  Attendees will not only have the opportunity to eat and play with numerous baseball legends, but will also have a chance to win $10,000 in cash prizes – all while benefiting a great cause for local kids.  The star-studded event has scheduled appearances by Baseball Legends Gaylord Perry, Darrell Evans, Jon Warden, Jason Christiansen, Ethan Blackaby, Bert Campaneris, Ron Robinson, Mike Myers and many more.
    
The event begins March 6 at 6 p.m. with tournament registration, a cocktail reception and silent auction. The evening continues with the charity dinner and live auction hosted by Comedian and Magician Michael Finney from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The tournament begins at 10 a.m. on March 7 followed by an awards ceremony at 5 p.m.  Dinner is $75 per person, and the tournament entry fee is $125 per person. The purpose of the Young Readers Council is to assist in raising the literacy rate.  There are two methods the organization utilizes to achieve higher levels of literacy.  First, they provide tutoring to children who are failing to read at proper grade levels, as determined by school norms.  Second, they provide books to elementary school students to motivate and facilitate their desire to read.
